Comments were made on the above topic, and indeed some UK hospital trusts are (or were) performing 10% or more worse (but still below USA average) according to reports today (Sept 3rd). |

Looking at specific interventions, Table 1 shows that the price of a normal delivery in the United States was estimated to be more than 50% higher than in France or Canada, while the price of a caesarean section was 30% higher than in France and more than 50% higher than in Canada. (OECD) |

Similarly much negativity has been generated by the case of Charlie Gard. "USA healthcare would not have done that", trumpets Ohio Norm. "He was killed by social healthcare", he states. An American medic claimed to have possible treatments, but did not actually come over to assess Charlie till far too late in the progression of the illness, when he had to agree it was too late. The protracted legal process turned out to be correct in the end, but if the medic had seen Charlie in January, when funds were being raised, things could have been different as his opinion could have swayed both the UK doctors and the courts. |
