This is a comment page on newer bands in the U.K. and elsewhere.

The Bands and artists here are from anywhere.

I have come across several new acts in various locations, some with sites, some not. Here are a few notes on some of them. There are site links and also pointers to mp3 files available on the Internet. This means of release is increasingly common today, replacing to some extent the self paid limited 7" single. (see Record Collector for a monthly listing of such 7" releases). There is also a cd singles club at Shifty Disco. They may be prepared to put your band out on it.

This band is from Fort Worth Texas. A first CD Mini Album has been released. They include a lot of electronics as well as standard instruments, as a visit to the band website will show. They also have Real Audio files on the site, playable with Real Audio 8 direct from the site. The images can be viewed at larger size on their site or save from here. The single? "The Grey Things Are". It can be ordered on the website (eventually!)

The UltraGrey site is run by Brian, a group member. I feel this is good policy if a band has one or two members who are able to do it. It pays to control your site!

Still to get the CD. Filled out all the forms and stuff. Then the Website over there was busy "come back later!"

The Clint Boon Experience (See Manchester page)

Inspiral Carpets keyboardist Clint leads a new band on a cosmic trail. Very musical and very witty too! Second album out now.

Internet contact A young guy in Malaysia with a good, sound voice, looking for a band. Only heard a ballad style so far (in Mandarin) but he can hold a line well, and with feeling. Eastlife perhaps? Seriously, the track I have is good!

Pic here later.

Web link possibly to follow.

Onion Bob Who he you saying? He posts regularly on a few ngs (links on this site actually). He has a few demo tracks lurking on the web somewhere. Posting links in next box if I find em! He taped the two tracks at home and was a bit rough vocally! He has a band too, see pic below. Bay Root is the current name. They have a website too, so get along there and download tracks. The pic below right is possibly the first release.

link to Bobs music

NB these are HOME recorded (with a rough voice too)

Er Yet more news. Bob has redone the site (same URL) and it looks good. There's another guitarist too! That (as with Wishbone Ash in the '70's) opens up a lot of possibilities.

"Smokestack" EP

Bread and Jam should be out early in 2001

Would you credit it! There is ANOTHER band with the same name, also in Devon! The name has been changed to deprive the legal lot of any potential earnings. Wonder if they have a site too?

Goldfrapp

Felt Mountain. Certainly this is different. Shades of Scott Walker perhaps?

Utopia. Goodness! a set of Remixes which really work! A good starting track here and very musical remixes!

Felt Mountain (The Matterhorn on the sleeve) has a wealth of instrumental and an excellent vocal and lyrical input. The review sticker does not exaggerate!

Linkin Park

You will find tracks by the band on www.mp3.com and no doubt on the Napster site too.

Somebody on Ye Olde teletext got the word in for this band. They have a LOT of tracks listed and downloadable on the MP3 site. Gonna look up a web page later on. If I had a label I would sign them up! Looks like they have signed since a single is due out.

The track "With you" shows the band to use RAP and metal style in alternation and fused together. Both MC and metal vocalists are sound and the instrumental backing is geared to the two vocal styles very effectively. More to follow..

Linkin Park have released the album "Hybrid Theory" in the UK and are already attracting adverse comments. It seems they DON'T need PAL stickers on the album! A refreshing change there!

Grand Opening Details to follow soon.

Minty Fresh Records Based in the windy city Chicago

San Francisco Band. They quote an influence by most Minty Fresh artists. There are TWO "radio" channels there AND a demo Upload is possible too!

Member Ron Solomon has just contacted the Coldplay ng re this band. They are very much into Suede it seems. More later.

My Vitriol

Always has hit the charts and is a very solid single indeed! Good live too according to Radio 1, even if they are NOT Nirvana! Some heckler in Newcastle apparently yelled that they were not! If anything, there are vocal shades of "Thousand Yard Stare"

The single "Pieces" CD2 has a most disturbing, but effective use of tape "wow" on it. Deliberate I'm sure, and an interesting effect!

The next entries have material online already.

Matthew Charlton. Matthew has a set of tracks covering a few different "genre" approaches. All can be heard by streaming audio from the site linked above.

Alex Carr. Has several self composed and two other tracks online. He says he is still not satisfied it seems, but I can hear potential there. Lyrics are on line too.

"Best Friend" and "My Boy" see right.

Lokked

Voices, See MP3.com Power metal.

Feature on mp3.com with several tracks. There is a link from the group site.

Metal style band. More details later. In contact with Alan in the band. They are looking for new members by the way. Vocalist and a drummer. (Shades of Echo And The Bunnymen?) They are using a session drummer.

Judging by the huge number of sites I came up with this band are not that new, just underrated in the UK.
