Killed by arresting cop. |
This page has been set up to comment on the policy in many USA states which leads to the killing of unarmed citizens at the point of arrest as a result of the way officers are trained to react.
The incident below happened Friday, September 23rd. |
History |
American cops are allowed to carry sidearms capable of discharging multiple shots (over and above the "six shooter" of "westerns" fame). |
Body cameras. |
Recently many cops have been equipped with body cameras. This should clearly indicate what actually transpired, but obviously depends on the cameras being turned on. The cop in this case had a body camera. Evidence Video can be seen here. |
Simple technical solution. |
A simple solution to this possible issue is to put a link in the holster to start the camera at once when the gun is released, if it is not already engaged. |
The wounds show that 2 of the 7 shots missed and that only one, probably the last hit when Tabares was facing the officer. I find that disturbing. |
On Sept.27, 2017, Dr. Etoi Davenport, a Forensic Pathologist with the Orange County Coroners Office, conducted an autopsy on the body of Tabares. During the autopsy, Dr. Davenport documented five gunshot wounds to the following areas: 1) superior left shoulder, 2) lateral left arm, 3) lower left back, 4) middle right back, and 5) front left abdomen. Dr. Davenport also documented two possible puncture marks to the right and left side of Tabares abdomen. These puncture marks are consistent with injuries sustained from a Taser. Dr. Davenport concluded Tabares died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds. |

Warning this shows a young man dying. |
This video shows an unarmed young man being shot no less than 6 times, twice in the back as he is standing about 10 feet from the cop. There are no audible commands from the cop until he appears to yell "get down" at the time of the seventh shot, after which the staggering young man collapses against the wall of the store. To my mind the cop made a fatal error in judgement here, probably as a result of the training policy in place. |

Does he look a threat in the image above? |
I do not have medical knowledge, but you can see the young man shake as the shots hit him and he seems to freeze with shock of the awful pain he must have been in. |

Second video prior to the above one. During this you hear a tazer and "take a seat", but it doesn't work. It's also possible to hear "get off my gun" I think during the struggle, but little else. He does get something off the officer's belt, but doesn't appear at all agressive after the pair separate, pushing his hair aside just before he is shot.- see above. |

Incident is not all covered in the videos. |
This does not show how the scenario began, but the young man is clearly moving towards the officer at the start of the video and assaults him - but without any weapon, just fists. There is also no audible dialogue from the officer. |

Two comments on the video linked above. |

This is a report on Dillan Tabares, the young man killed in the shooting. |
Lost career. - He was awarded medals. |
The 27-year-old Huntington Beach native served in the U.S. Navy until he left with less than an honorable discharge, Brandon Tabares said. |
For more on the story, go to the link above. |
Brandon Tabares said his brother, toward the end of his Navy stint, began to use marijuana heavily to battle depression and a failed marriage. After Dillan Tabares left the Navy, the two backpacked around the U.S. and then returned to Southern California where they lived together. |
I find the comments to this video (so far) as being disturbing. The young man was agressive, yes, but he was not armed and not posing a threat at the time of the actual shooting. He had his back to the officer as at least four shots were fired. There was also no audio from the cop before he began to shoot. |

Posted in reply to the above |
Contrary to what we reported earlier, the victim of the Huntington Beach police shooting caught on video Friday was a 27-year-old Navy veteran named Dillon Tabares who graduated from Marina High School as opposed to a student currently enrolled at the same school. |
Also in reply to the above. |
He was sent home due to mental illness from the military. He is neither a bum, thug, or evil. He has a beautiful family and couldn't help his actions. If anyone has any empathy for the family now is the time to show it. They had to watch him go down.? |
These were some of the initial comments on the two videos. Yes, Tabares was in the wrong to attack the cop as far as the videos show, but what led up to it? The actual shooting does not look at all right, taking into account the stance and gestures of Tabares. He had his back to most of the 6 shots, all before any words from the cop. That is what makes me so angry, both with the cop and the posters at YT. |
