Fluorides.

This page has been set up to comment on the use of fluorides in mains drinking water supplies.

According to ATP this is bad policy.

In some parts of the world natural fluoride compound levels are far higher than the levels in fluoridated water supplies.

Greenfacts website. Note that in some areas the fluorides come from coal burning indoors, not from water.

In China, endemic fluorosis associated with coal burning has been identified in epidemiological investigations. Local residents absorb high doses of fluorides through inhalation and/or ingestion, as a consequence of the indoor use of high-fluoride coal in cooking, heating and drying of food (the average concentrations of fluoride compounds in coal were 200–1500 mg/kg, with the highest up to 3000 mg/kg). In those areas, the intakes of fluorides via drinking-water were relatively low (range from 0.1 to 0.52 mg/day per person) (Table 10). The number of cases of coal-burning-type skeletal fluorosis has been estimated to be 1.5 million (Hou, 1997; Liang et al., 1997).
