Rio's Attic Website Is well worth a visit. There have been recent updates too.

More Aleka's Attic

There were also other tracks available as streaming audio only it seems at this link. The track Too many colors was here.

Galling, but since I added the two links above they have not been working!

I intend to add a full page to Aleka's Attic either here or on a new site yet to be started.

There also appears to be a larger number of sites with references to the band. Links to follow later.

River Jude Phoenix. 1970-1993

He was always there for so many of his friends. How did we miss the signs?

The pic to the left is scanned from a colour print. I have many such genuine colour prints, at postcard size and larger. Alas there has not been a calendar this year.

Screensaver? There are several at the Rio's Attic website. You can FTP to the site to download them. The list has not been updated for a while. There are also some wallpapers there too.

Aleka's Attic. You can see River second left on the back row. The band was not promoted on his name, but word soon spread. Sadly Island are still holding the tapes.

Released tracks were on benefit albums. Most of these are now deleted. There are now some tracks on the web but there should be more available. River regarded music as more than just a hobby and put much effort into it. Its a great shame we can hear so little of it!

I am extremely happy to say that some of River's music IS now accessible. This is thanks to Sasa Raphael AKA Hasid RA, via the website souljah.com. They worked on an album "NEVER ODD OR EVEN" in River's home studio at Micanopy FL and at Pro Media Studios in Gainesville FL. This was, according to Dave Smadbeck "working like banshees", though River also taped some other tracks with guitar only at the time of "Dark Blood", just before he sadly died on the pavement outside the Viper Room in Los Angeles. Souljah intend to add more MP3 tracks to the two already on the site currently as time goes on. We can be grateful that Hasid RA has been able to access the album so that we may hear it. The site also includes a roster of other artists, mainly RAP oriented, though I have yet to check that. The two tracks are, "Note to a Friend" and "Below Beloved" which shows some of the vocal and other experiments River was trying out. (Premonition of Kid A actually!)

Beware faked autographs. There are rather a lot of them about, as seen in this example. It is much clearer if you save to file and then lighten the scan.

River would have been 30 on August 23rd. 2000. It doesn't seem seven years since his death in 1993. Lets hope the media remember him as we do.The site linked with reference to Aleka's Attic music MP3 files is a birthday present according to the site creator.

Video and DVD (List incomplete)

Beware here of compatibility. There are more videos on the US market, but they are on VHS NTSC not PAL. You must have a dual standard VCR, not all of which may play the stereo soundtracks properly. DVDs have "Regional Coding" which may present a problem too.

There is also other archive material, including TV interviews. There is a lot of information on the excellent Rio's Attic website. The Dark Blood movie clips are, by all account very moving in part, especially the last shots referred to in John Glatts' book. It's a pity that computer technology can't apparently finish this movie. I also wonder if there is any chance of that becoming available?
