THC/CBD ratios are essential in any medication argument. |
Sponheim in ATP showed several cases of USA youngsters "before and after a "dose" of cannabis". In none of these was the actual content of that "dose" given. Granted in the videos there were clear behavioural changes, but without the dosage / ratio information they were greatly devalued. It also begs the question what do these same "doses" do to a "normal" brain? |

What about
recreational pot you might say?
Four
years in Colorado. Nla - Revealed some worrying info.
Sorry Sponheim. but the above is NOT a good idea.
|
A link to this video has recently been posted by someone I have discussed the matter with before today. |
|
I have contended exactly the position expressed in the video, but have been effectively shouted down every time. It makes the case for low THC and high CBD in the whole plant as being beneficial in the specific case mentioned. There are other proven cases including the one I have personally signed a UK petition supporting legalisation and prescription. That was granted, but the Home Office has again intervened. The mother of the boy involved (Billy Caldwell) obtained CBD oil in Canada, but it was confiscated at the airport. Billy began to get epileptic fits as a result. |
|
Regarding the above, the doctor prescribing the CBD oil has been threatened with losing his license, but the Home Secretary has intervened to release some of the medication involved, to last about 3 weeks. The current (June 18th) position is that an application for a license should be made. This is a ridiculous position to take as it costs thousands and takes ages. It is clear that the medication works to help Billy. Cut the crap and change the law! Canada has gone through the process. |
The above study shows, yet again a potential use of one of the many chemical components of the cannabis plant. It does NOT relate to THC. |
It does NOT, however support the type of cannabis with very high THC and low CBD favoured by "recreational" users. THC may have some medical benefits as well, but high levels in the absence of moderating CBD appears to have adverse effects on users, especially regular users, seriously so in younger users as many cases testify. |
This link shows medical uses of Cannabis Note that in NONE of the above is the high THC "Skunk" even mentioned. |
|
Taken as a group it appeared that oral cannabinoids (e.g., THC 10mg) outperformed placebo and were analgesically equivalent to codeine 60mg; higher doses (THC 20mg) were comparable to codeine 120mg, but had a much higher incidence of adverse effects, particularly sedation. |
More risks than benefits? Is legalized-marijuana-leading-to-increased-drug-issues? Doctors say theyre increasingly fielding questions about the safety of marijuana, as use of the drug rises and more communities consider legalizing it. Colorado and Washington state have legalized recreational marijuana, and medical use is allowed in 21 states and Washington, D.C. USA TODAYs Liz Szabo talked to experts about what scientists know and dont know about marijuanas risks and benefits. |
Colorado latest dated July 11th. The state is showing increased crime rates, against the overall USA trend. This could relate to the taxes and other costs added to the legalised sales of Marijuana. "Black market" supplies cost less apparently, but still make it worthwhile to deal in it. |
Crime rate in Colorado increases much faster than rest of the country. Some Colorado lawmakers, police and legal experts partly blame the marijuana industry, claiming that it has lured transients and criminals to the state. I think it would be naive not to believe the increase in drug use is not having an impact on the crime rate, said Rep. Cole Wist, R-Centennial, who serves on the House Judiciary Committee. But Cole added that its not just marijuana that is having an impact on crime, but also an increase in the use of heroin and illegal prescription drugs. |
The brain isnt fully mature until about age 25, Wright says. That may help explain why people who use pot frequently, beginning as teens, often have significant declines in their IQ as adults, Volkow wrote in a June article in The New England Journal of Medicine. Marijuana impairs critical thinking skills for days after people sober up. That means that teens who use marijuana on weekends may not be able to learn properly when they return to school. Like alcohol, marijuana impairs judgment, so that teens may take more risks from speeding to sex that can endanger their lives. |
Q. What dont researchers know about marijuana? A. Most research is based on heavy use of marijuana and daily smoking, Volkow says. Scientists know much less about the effects of using marijuana once a week or once a month. Older studies also may not be as relevant to the more potent marijuana products sold today, Volkow says. Doctors at the National Institute of Health are prioritizing research in young people, and hope to better understand the effects of marijuana in real-world situations, in which teens often combine it with alcohol. Its possible that some of the side effects of marijuana relate to impurities found in illegal products, says Jahan Marcu, a senior scientist at Americans for Safe Access, a medical marijuana advocacy group. As marijuana becomes better regulated, it also may become safer. |
