The shipyard is in Belgrade, and there is a second yard, VALHALI in the Netherlands. |

Beluga Skysails The ship was not only the first commercial new building vessel built on the Belgrade shipyard in many years, but it was also the largest ship ever built in Serbia with its length of 132,20 m, width of 15,87 m and draught of 7,73 m. After completion of the hull, it was transported to the Netherlands for finalization. |

MV Ashington was the first wingsail assisted freighter. The original intention was to have sails fitted fore and aft, but she only had the one installed. It not only helped the ship on voyages, but also assisted considerably in steering and docking, the thrust provided being quite considerable on a small ship. She changed hands sadly and as the oil price had collapsed ($7.00 a barrel) the sail was neglected and was removed. Imagine the savings today! There is no technical reason why a number of such units could not be fitted to larger vessels, thus providing more thrust. The latest designs actually give more thrust than the one on the Ashington! |

Blue Nova is one of four such yachts built by WWS. She is computer controlled (micro mariner) and has been tested under the most severe conditions, including a hurricane! All four vessels are still in use. There was also a smaller model. |
